(You're getting it wrong. Light is made up of white, which is broken down into red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. When light hits a surface, all of the light except the colour of the item gets absorbed into the item. The other colour bounces off into our eyes or onto other things. When light hits white, most of the light is reflected, save it gets weaker, so white is all of the colours. Black absorbs all of the colours and usually doesn't reflect any, instead absorbing it all. That's why wearing black gets you hotter why wearing white gets you not so hot. Since blue has the greatest wavelength, it is the strongest, and is the second hottest item of clothing, usually. Violet is the weakest. Green is the center point.)

(Not exactly.

The brain/eyes can interpret the combination of as few as three specific wavelengths as "white." True "white," made up of all visible wavelengths at a saturating intensity, can be broken down into an infinite number of color wavelengths, which in reality is unattainable: even the sun has peaks and valleys in its spectrum due to its elemental make-up, and "saturating intensity" is somewhat subjective, and might even be defined as either infinite or simply where your brain has set your eyes' "white balance" at.

Violet is "stronger" than blue, not weaker, at about 0.400 micron wavelength, and is in fact the strongest visible wavelength. Blue has a 0.475 micron wavelength. Just below violet is ultraviolet, which we can't see, and is actually strong enough to cause florescence, as well as give you cancer as the wavelengths are small enough to break the chemical bonds in DNA.

Red is the weakest visible wavelength, at about 0.650 microns. Green is in fact the center point of visible light at about 0.510 microns, and as a bit of trivia, it is green that the eyes use to determine how bright something is (the brain can default to other colors when green isn't present) which is why night-vision optics are traditionally green, and tail lights are red (red won't blind you as easy because it's a weak wavelength, it has nothing to do with the fact that red is a psychological "warning" color).

Something that appears completely white can in fact get very hot in the sun if it absorbs infrared, which is beyond red, up to 1 mm wavelength. Infrared is commonly referred to as "heat" but that's not entirely accurate. Many articles of clothing that appear black actually reflect infrared. I am personally unsure if that is by design.

The traditional thinking of "color" is different with light than with pigment. The three primary colors for light are red, green and blue (magenta, green and cyan), and the primary colors for pigment are red, yellow, and blue. Pigment interacts with light by removing wavelengths only (which was basically already said). Adding colors together in light gets you brighter, and closer to what your brain interprets as "white" as there are more wavelengths present. Adding colors together in pigments will remove more of the wavelengths, making the object darker and bringing it closer to black. The brain's interpretation of the color of an object depends on the wavelengths in the light illuminating the object, the wavelengths removed by the object, and the brain's "white balance setting," which can do very strange things if the illuminating light is made up of a dominating pure wavelength.

Black, white, and all shades of gray are not colors because they do not have specific wavelengths. They are an intensity of a multitude of wavelengths and harmonics (electromagnetic "white noise") within the visible spectrum.

Aluminum is one of the most highly reflective materials in the visible and infrared wavelengths (at least, it probably goes beyond that). Even so, it is only 96% reflective, meaning it on average absorbs 4% of the light that contacts it.

A "photon" is not a particle, but acts very similar to one. It is actually an electromagnetic "pulse" at a specific frequency sent by a an electron changing it's orbital energy level.

The wavelength of light emitted or absorbed by an element is determined by the electron orbits of the atom. Each element has a unique signature determined by the electron orbits. A "photon" is emitted when a electron moves between orbital energy levels. The frequency is determined by which orbit the electron is dropping from/to. This frequency will also determine which colors the element will absorb. As an example, copper will burn green in flame. If an atom is excited (i.e. by friction from temperature) an electron may be bumped into a higher orbital energy level, and when the electron drops back down a "photon" is emitted. Likewise when a photon hits an atom at it's electron orbital frequency, the electron will absorb the "photon" pulse, exciting the atom into mehcanical energy (i.e. it will raise the temperature). This is why light will heat up objects that absorb the color of the object.)

(Right, but I was meaning the basic-as-they-can-get colours. Violet probably tied into suns, how none appear green or violet, but blue because of some reason I forgot about, and also Christmas lights, where since violet is hard to see, it isn't worth making purple ones, it clicked in as weakest. It's been a while, but all I'm trying to prove is that gray, white, and black aren't colours, so everyone is happy. [Or not...*shifty eyes*])

-Peter gets very embarrassed when wrong.

((added a bit more to my previous post))

(Violet is hard to see because it's the end of the visible light spectrum. Likewise near-infrared light is equally hard to see, though the light is still there.

Stars won't appear green because by the time something gets hot enough to be emitting green light, it's also emitting all larger wavelengths as well, making it a combination of green and everything lower (i.e. it looks yellow because it's already emitting red). That said, a yellow star will also be emitting wavelengths -way- past green, and past ultraviolet, all the way to X-ray (which is just past ultraviolet) and into Gamma-ray (which is just past X-ray). This is due to the nuclear reactions within the star, which excite atoms to the point of breaking them, and why you get skin cancer and die if you like the beach too much. So, a star's average visible color depends on many factors ranging from the elements in them to the surface temperature. In any case, there is so much light in a star that even a "blue" star or a "red" star will essentially appear white to the eye, without a white reference to compare to.)

-Calan still thinks that RT's favorite colors of black and white are completely valid.

* Loves violet lights.

* Hopes Peter never meets RT in a dark alley.

* First college roommate had transferred into graphic design from marine biology, and had a spectacular fresh-water aquarium full of cichlids. They were really active at night—competing with each other for territory and burrowing out their own little nooks. We'd watch them under a red light, which they didn't seem to notice, but which allowed us to watch them going about their night life. The red light trick doesn't have the same effect on college girls.

* Another lighting trick from the same roommate: a multitude of appropriated orange construction barricade lights wired together in an appropriate fashion make a great artificial firelight. Not so great for the fish, but generally more effective for impressing party-goers than cichlids.

-Peter does not support the favourite colours being both black and white. Perhaps if he said "all shades of grey"? Nothing (exclusive) gets quite perfectly black or white, except nothing (noun).

-Peter likes to change his signature randomly.

-Calan makes absolutely no attempt to try to figure this out.

*I can't help but like Led Zeppelin and Metallica when I actually -hear- their good stuff, even though if you ask me on an average day, I'll tell you I hate their guts.

*I chew my nails obsessively. I used to chew them until I bled, but I've managed to get the nasty habit somewhat under control over the years. When I get anxious, though, I'm back in my old grooves.

*Although I don't smoke much regularly, if I chain smoke, it's a sure sign I'm -very- nervous over something.

*Calan enjoys a good cigar. Calan Enjoys his pipe (in which he smokes TOBACCO). Calan hates cigarettes. Calan's first smoking experience when he was young was smoking cinnamon sticks. (Not bad...)

*Calan enjoys rum almost as much as Liss does, but is -far- better at the "not getting drunk" part.

*Calan -might- have been honestly drunk (as opposed to over the driving limit which IMHO isn't honestly -drunk-) only once in his life but even that is unclear because he was successfully able to pull off RPing a completely sober Liss with no problems whatsoever, and had no hangover.

*Calan played a main role in an episode that aired on television and has actually been recognized "on the street" by people he doesn't know, and played a secondary role in a "reality" game show episode that never aired.

*Calan detests Hollywood and LA and hated going there to film.

*Calan is glad the game show never aired because it was biased and stupid.

*Thought Tsunami did chew..

*Hates driving. But will likely have to get a license anyway.

*Doesn't smoke. Hates when people smoke around him, but has never actually asked anyone who did it, to stop.

*Has never been in a movie, and is glad he hasn't. If he got recognized on the streets by some stranger, he would likely freak and, possibly, run away.

*Addicted to nicotine. Smokes semi-regularly, but most often uses "snus" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snus), a scandinavian tobacco product. Is very considerate and careful about not smoking in the presence of people who may dislike it.
