This really has no importance to those who don't care for DnD, or by extention ADnD, or don't plan on buying another DnD computer game- But.
Fourth edition sucks. Expecially the Forgotten Realms.
Why?
- Four foot tall, water-loving Halflings. (Note; I am obsessed with Halflings.)
- Warforged in every setting, more or less.
- No gnomes.
- No Half-Orcs (This seems like more of a 'good' thing, though.)
- They've killed Mystra, again.
- Helm dies. Killed by TYR.
- Urdlen, dead.
- Duergar dieties, dead.
- Gorm, dead.
- Haela Brightaxe, dead.
- The magic system is changed.
- Barbarians, gone.
- Bards, gone.
- Sorcerers, gone.
- Monks, gone.
- 'Warlords' are in. Sounds extremely gay, no?
Please, please, please tell me it's a hoax. Either that or grab your chainsaws, ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to WotC to throw $*&! over and break a few windows.

Not all of that seems 100% true
http://dnd4.com/?page_id=33
These are just "facts and rumors" but a good bit of it has been confirmed.

-I love Halflings too but water-loving? That's not very Halfling like. Hell dinosaur riding Halflings are out there too. (Eberron Setting)
-Warforged are alright. Though I can't see them fitting into FR unless a DM has a special plot or reason.
-NO GNOMES!? How can a world exist with NO GNOMES!? I think the 9th circle of hell just heated up. (Love Gnomes if you couldn't tell)
-No Half-Orcs seems unnatural. Orcs will always rape, kill, and pillage. So there has to be half-breeds somewhere.
-As far as the deities go. I could give a rats arse. Sure it may be annoying at times but not enough to really care.
-The magic system changes every edition. What else is new?
-How does getting rid of all those classes work? They must be going under a different name or something.
-...and yes, Warlord sounds like a retarded class.

- Warforged, technically, do exist in every setting. They just aren't sentient in the Forgotten Realms, and have a different name. I seem to have forgotten it, though.
- There are gnomes. They just aren't a player race any more. Sorry, buddy; you're a random encounter.
- Min-maxed Half-Orc barbarians, and Half-Orc paladins. Half-Orcs gone is a good thing, if not a kick in the balls.
- Oh, so it doesn't matter that there's no more versatiliy with paladins, clerics, rangers, and druids any more? They're making most of the racial pantheons into the major dieties, and just saying they have different names, by the looks of it. It's disgusting. Hopefully, though, they'll remove Brandobaris. That [censored], confusing people into thinking that halflings are chaotic neutral ranger/rogues.
- No. They're just removing the classes. Warlord is supposed to be something like a combination of sorcerer and bard, but that's it. Everything else is gone. Apparently, all the sorcerers died in this stupid plot they're running, the Spellplauge.
- Yes, I'm going to make a homosexual Warlord if I ever get a fourth edition game, just to make a point.

-Now that you mention it. I do think I recall reading about non-sentient Warforged in FR.
-That's STUPID! Getting rid of Gnomes! FASCIST! *steals Sliver's line* Just a bunch of racist idiots. *makes 4th ed. playable Gnomes*
-I could give a rats arse about min-maxing and stats. For RP purposes Half-Orcs should stay. Stupid players should make a concept then a character. Not the other way around. *throws stat mongers into the oven*
-Sure its a little annoying that they're jumbling up the pantheon a bit. But I guess it doesn't bother me much because I usually play/make home brewed worlds.
-So they're killing off a lot of core classes and such to fit around an FR plot? WTF!? Leave the core rules alone and [censored] with them in a FR Campaign setting book.
-Have fun making a homosexual Warlord. Though that would be weird/interesting. Conquering the realms along side your same gender lover.

*Chuckles.*
Reading through that list, it seems like they've revamped a lot of the
systems just for the hell of it. They've changed things that I thought
were better before. But on the other hand, it seems like they've simplified
a lot of previously overly complex things (grapple, anyone?) and made
things more accessible for players (magic item creation, anyone?).
This site doesn't say exactly how things will tie together, so who knows.
And as for you complaining about gnomes being gone... I let my players
play non-PC races all the time, why should you be discouraged? As for
Sorc/Wiz, I've always hated having those two classes. They're stringing
off loose ends. Bah. Who knows.
We'll have to wait for the book to come out, and then I'll torren- I mean,
buy it. =)

I guess it would be easier if they just labled them mage or something and the player can write into his story if his magic comes naturally or through years of reading books.
Also, I guess that's true enough with the whole players playing "monster" characters. I too allow it. I just find it a headache at times.

Try RPing with Blubie on the server He's a "Walking talking headache".
And.. About those classes.. I never liked sorc much anyway, but wtf is up with removing bards and monks?! Sure, monks were a bit overpowered in 3 and 3.5 ed, but just.. weaken them up a bit..

Indeed monks need to be nerfed but removal is a little over the top. And Bards? Why them? They're the ones that sing songs and tell tales to the townsfolk about your groups amazing feats.
Its one thing to trim a hedge. It's another to take a chainsaw to it.

Bards = Ridiculous and stupid.
I think anyone who dances around playing a banjo and singing as battle
rages is stupid.

Doesn't necessarily have to jump around dancing, he could just boost morale and actually do a little fighting alongside..
And yeah, as D_Black said, they tell tales of your parties feats. Get new quests on how famous your are? I've never played any kind of DND other than various Forgotten Realms comp games, so I dunno how it works, but it sounds logical

Here's your Bard and boosting of morale.

Elan ftw, damnit!
Look at him later on though, when he gets his prestige class.. He actually becomes pretty awesome with a rapier.

Well.... for the tabletop game I'm in right now, my Bard mostly sings *before* encounters and they don't last much more than five rounds with our blender (aka fighter) unless there's a problem.
But then, he's kind of starting to take over from our (deceased) rogue now - and has a funky prestige class if I actually manage to sneak up on anyone.
Other than that, my bard's probably the second best "fighter" in the party, plus for a while he was the only one with a heal spell.
((Yes, I like bards - even if mine is slightly Elan-ish and has a tendency to get kidnapped by girls who think he sings pretty (I think I'm adding 26 or 32 to Perform rolls by now). Shush. ))

I dont really see whats the fuzz about Gnomes about. If its not a race in MM, then just proxy it with a Halfling.
Whee. No more N+1 subraces for elves. Those three are enough.
Everyone gets 'Magic'. Yay?
If you think Bards were stupid, take a look at Monks. They're broken. Besides, Bards were a bit too NPCish and mostly useless in my opinion. Well unless he/she was using diplomacy cheese, but anyone can do that.
Hope they make Fighters to be on par with others again.
Besides. If you dont like the 4th edition, what stops you from playing 3.5 instead?
*Shrugs*
