I thrive on test-taking, so the SAT wasn't a big deal for me (though I didn't do -that- great on it, I think I got a 1080, lol). I took it......10 years ago? Holy freakin' crap, I'm getting old! Dang...I should take it again for kicks, see what I get, lol. |

The SAT is a test whose scores -most- universities and colleges in the USA use to determine if you are up to their entrance requirements. The scores are usually part of a package that includes your high school grades, demographics info, usually an essay of some kind, and other things depending on the school that the university uses to determine if they will accept you or not. Many universities have minimum SAT scores that they will accept. |

The SAT was more oriented, when I took it anyway, towards a math/science path. The ACT was more of a liberal arts focus. I took them both, and I found the ACT to be annoying. That being said, I was also a math/science type! The thing about the SAT that was the most useful for me was the studying of word roots, prefixes, and suffixes. Math and such I had down, but the ability to tear the words down and derive a meaning helped quite a bit. It really was the best "studying" that I did. But...again...I cheat. I am just a very good standardized test taker. |

What I did (nearly 10 years ago as well. GAH I'm old! *hugs Feargus*) I got an 1100 out of 1600..took it twice. I made flashcards of all the vocabulary stuff and studied a lot. I also read a TON (and still do) so English part wasn't so hard. I went to several SAT prep courses (held at libraries or in the High school) for free and that helped as well. I also got free pencils! hehe. I had to get a private tutor to help me with the math stuff, since Math and I are brutal enemies, but I was already having a tutor anyways to help me with math 3; cause I suck. But you know what, my grades went up 20 points! So yea, he was a much better teacher than the teacher I had. I guess the trick is to just keep on taking practice tests over and over and over again. That's what I did. It gets boring but if you do one or two a day you get the hang of it and it gets easier. I of course, suck at multiple choice tests, but having a private tutor to help with my weakness (MATH) really helped. |

Looking back upon it, I think the ACT/SAT are easy tests, except the math section. The problem is the standardized format. Timing and accuracy are everything. Just do your best and forget the rest. |
