Dru wrote: Did it hurt? What was the procedure like? Do you have to apply eyeliner still to give the full look effect or? Well, I did all the research, went in for a consultation and forked over a few hundred dollars to have my eyeliner done in a manner she demonstrated to me using conventional makeup, the "look" was agreed upon ahead of time and photos were taken to document. I had done LOTS of research, had decided upon the hand method instead of the machine method, decided the ink color, etc, looked into possible risks associated with MRIs (due to the iron pigment in the dye or whatever it is, but I think Mythbusters busted that myth he he). I also knew that it would take two sessions of pigment application, several weeks apart. I had the first session done, heck yes, it hurt like a son-of-a-gun, even though she applied a bit of an anesthetic. With the constant pricking, I must have gotten lots of pigment in my eyes or something, because I ended up with the worst case of pink eye I'd ever seen in my life. The whites of both eyes were red as tomatoes, and no, I'm not exaggerating. Got that all cleared up in time for my next session about six weeks later, if I recall. For some reason ended up with a corneal abrasion this time (still not sure how that happened, since she never touched my eyeball). Had to visit the opthalmologist -again- (forunately he's also my cousin) and again, ended up with -another- case of raging pink eye. The tattoo artist, whom of course I had researched extensively and was certified and documented and all that good stuff, said she had never had that happen with any of her other clients. That ALL would have been worth it, in my opinion, if I had obtained the results that we had agreed upon in the consultation. Sadly, you can have all the consultations you want and the fact is, they simply cannot guarantee a specific result (even if they say they can, like she did). The result was less than what I'd been anticipating. It's been a few years, and it's faded so much I don't think you can even tell I had it done. So yeah, money well spent? Probably not. I do know that some women end up with beautiful results, so just because my experience didn't work out as I'd hoped doesn't mean I'm against it in general. I might be the "exception" and not the "rule."

I'm down to 6 piercings now...nose, ears, and belly. As soon as I get my next dentist visit out of the way I'm going to shoot for a labret.

I have several friends with multiple blacklight tattoos. Like, ones with blacklight ink in the skin so that the design glows under the UV light or whatever. It's...cool, I guess. But if someone's going to put me through that kind of pain, I want the results to be visible!

I used to be a walking pin cushion. Had 16 piercings at one time in total. Now, I'm left with my ears and my labret, as that's all I've chosen to keep. I've got four tattoos, two on my back being fairly large.

I might be odd, but I prefer women without tattoo's. I enjoy silky smooth skin without anything distracting from the form. However, I like guys with tasteful/clever tats. Hmm... Maybe I should talk with Calan about him getting something! =) What do you think, honey? You could even get a tattoo of that Blackberry you love so much, darlin'!

There are two reasons why I do not wish to modify my body in the form of tattoos or scarification. One is trivial, the other a question of worth:
1. It hurts. (Quadruple this objection for scarification.) 2. Tattoos become deformed as one grows older. The skin begins to sag and grow loose, and the tattoo loses its original shape and can become something much less "pretty" than it was originally. For me, and this is obviously different for others, the benefit of enjoying a pretty tattoo for my youth doesn't add up to the cost of baring it for my middle- and elderly years.
For piercings, objection #1 applies, but #2 doesn't as much. Hence, were my future profession not somewhat dependent upon gentlemanly appearance, there are some, albeit slim, chances that I would get one. I mean "gentlemanly" in the conservative appearance sense--I do not mean that men who have piercings are not "gentlemen."

Had my bellybutton, labret, tongue, some on the ears, and an industrial.
- My little brother got rid of the bellybutton one the very hard way. - I removed the labret about 8 months ago after having it for 9 or so years, after my dentist scared me sufficiently. - The industrial is rather new, a bit over 1.5 years, haven't fully healed yet. - The one in my tongue is still there and it's about... 7 years since I got that one.
Not planning on getting any new stuff, though I do miss my labret from time to time. I do want to get a tattoo at some point and have the design sort of figured out, but I just need to muster up the money and the courage.
