Anyway to be more precise? You talking about Dragon Age?

It's a White Wolf, World of Darkness game, one of the three new ones including Vampire: The Requiem, Werewolf: The Forsaken, and Mage: The Awakening. It's a d10 system, very free-form, generally set in modern day.

I've played it here and there, though not in ages. I'm more familiar with Vampire: The Requiem, and it's predecessor "The Masquerade." I do have the sourcebook for Mage here in my apartment though. It's very long, and I've never gotten all the way through it. Though I did try a couple times.

It took me a few read throughs, but Mage is very fun. I had contemplated on creating a Mage: The Awakening Chronicle, based on HP ^^ heh.

Heh, that would be very interesting. I'm not sure the mechanics line up, and the World of Harry Potter isn't nearly as dark as the World of Darkness, but it might be fun.

It's possible, I've been thinking out changes to line it up with HP. And some alterations to HP would be needed heh.

The fun with Mage is how free form the spell system is. You basically progress in areas, gaining abilities as you get better. It is then an exercise of getting creative. It is a great game, but it would be difficult to do via NWN.

I have no intentions of doing this via NWN. I intend to use a chat room that allows for Side Games, I'll run it there, but I have stuff to plan out first and I am curious if there would be any interest in such a game from the HP community ^^;

Probably not from me, mostly because the draw of White Wolf games to me has always been the social factor and atmosphere. So much of my expectation of WW games is wrapped up in sitting around a campfire on a crisp autumn evening. I just don't think I'd enjoy it via text.

I know all about "Mage the Awakening" at least most of it anyways...They're basically the most powerful class in world of darkness, but a paradox really gives them the disadvantage. Vampires can use their powers, and so can werewolves...Even though a mage could easily obliterate any of them, if they mess up it could end disastrous.

My favorite spell is call lightening. Simply because you can cast it anytime during a scene outdoor in a rainstorm without it being vulgar. There are minor spells that are really cool as well...

Gnosis level 2 powers: control fire, lightning, water. You can pull out electricity from an electrical socket and shock people with it, or make a gas stove explode when someone turns it on.

Other types of spells those are just "Obrimos" or - Force spells...Any mage can learn any type of spell but specifically different mages are better at different things.

Obrimos: Forces/Prime - Super Hero/Villain mages

Mastigos: Mind/Space - These ones I don't know much about, but their powers...Mind, you could levitate or mind probe someone... Mind tricks, ect. Space, you can manipulate structure... a room 10x15 is now 30x45. You can open pocket dimensions, worm holes, basically, you can throw someone into another dimension if you wanted to

Moros: Matter/Death - Necromancer mages - matter being that turning a squirt gun into a .50 cal, or bringing the dead to life.

Thyrsus: Life/Spirit - Pretty much druids...many of them live away from civilization. Witch Doctors, Voodoo Priests, or sometimes Doctors. Life, healing. Spirit; it's very powerful, the spirit is what makes us do the things we do...say if you feel angry, you can feel it, but if your spirit is calm you wouldn't be able to attack. You can also talk to trees, and plants...not also but human emotions you can communicate with...same with mind I suppose, but this you're pretty much just reading their feelings, not what they're thinking.

Arcanthus: Time/Fate - Not to sure about Arcanthus, didn't read much about them...but I know they are one of the most powerful mages...Time is one of the best things to have on your side, see the future, see someone else's future, alter the future. Fate; basically something bound to happen...basically if you put a curse on someone saying, "You will get a lethal wound." It's not guarenteed to happen but say if you get stabbed with a dagger in the arm, it might have struck a vein, or perhaps the dagger was rusted and you have that flowing through your blood.

Yes, I answered this to the best of my knowledge without using the books.

also yes mages can have pets, what not...Join specific orders to gain beneficial powers, and I believe that Arcanthus need a silver wand in order to spell cast.

There's a whole lot more stuff...

Parodoxes

Antagonists

Gnosis

Rotes

Vulgar Spells

The Nimbus

Mage Orders

and Much more...

also, World of Darkness is not always, "Scary Stories"

It's mainly about telling a story about it's players. . . In the world of darkness books, it says, "Do things that your gaming party would like doing." Rip off movies, video games, TV shows. Most of the stories that I tell are not scary at all, but just involve a whole bunch of dice rolling and killing. A lot of times, people only feel interacting when they can roll dice, and world of darkness is about "Interaction" more than anything... A good story where people can make decisions, and change the story...WoD is not subtle, it's always changing, and you always have to be open to people changing the story. Otherwise your story will not be as much fun as you think. There's a whole bunch of factors...So don't try too hard. =)

A couple things I always try and think of:

- Combat Oriented
- Interactive Dialogue
- Characters players relate to
- Anything can happen

Some of the things you mentioned are partly accurate, others are horribly incorrect, but alas.. Mages are the most powerful venue in WoD. Given time they can decimate any other supernatural.

Mastigos do not levitate. *Rofl*, Obrimos do that. Mastigos mind rape, teleport, Scry, open portals, and some more.

Acanthus aren't exactly the most powerful. Knowing the future is useful, but it isn't 100% going to do something. You could still be hit with Radiation blasts from the "super hero" xD

Moros do not bring the dead back to life.

Spirit has nothing to do with emotions, trees or the like. They deal with the Shadow Realm, the Spirit world. Mind does auras, emotions, and the like. Death deals with Ghosts. (Spirits are.. different.)

Anyway, not to be a jerk, just wanted to put it into perspective. :P

It's not just fate - it's also time...It's my opinion, or I read it in the book somewhere, but I believe Time is one of the most deadliest things, since a time mage can learn everything there is to know...They can be around as long as an antediluvian vampire, well so can life mages...and having that much knowledge, living for that long? To have mastered everything there is to know about magic, being able to cast any spell they wanted to at the mere thought of it. That is why time is most powerful, and Life as well...

Life and/or Time do not grant immortality.

Life/Time combined with Death, both at 5 can allow a fake immortality.

Anywho, working on mechanics.
