Soo...For Christmas I got my first personal laptop! :) I payed for 3/4 of it and it runs on Windows 7, or whatever. I installed NWN, and the menu popped up when I ran it! So far so good! But when I tried to click "Play" a Program Compatibility Assistant popped up saying that "
"THIS PROGRAM IS BLOCKED DUE TO COMPATIBILITY ISSUES.
Neverwinter Nights has a known compatibility issue with this version of Windows. For an update that is compatible with this version of Windows, contact Bioware Corp..." and sure, sure! I'm going to go check Bioware..but I wanted to see if any of my fellow HPers have had this problem. ^^"

--Edit: I see that Jigsaw and Stingray888 have had the same problem before, hm.

Also, I don't think BioWare has anymore support for NwN...
It was kind of a pain the last time I had to reinstall, finding CEP and updates from other websites. Have you tried running it in Admin mode? >.>

My Brother has easy enough ability to log in by right clicking the shortcut and then "open as administrator". Hopefully this helps! If not, google it! It seems to work now-a-days!

You MUST run it in compatibility mode as windows xp service pack 2 or 3. You might run into other problems after this during the boot up screens, and if so, post it and I'll try to help you if I can. (It's a Windows 7 issue)

Tried that before, multiple times. T-T

After hitting "play" it will show the NWN logo and totally look like it's going to work!--and then it will crash into the "Program blocked.." :x

Tried that, too. Always the same outcome: Program blocked due to incompatibility. I did google, though! :P And it got me two options, both too complicated for my simple mind, so tomorrow I'll let my brother have a go at them.

What version of NWN do you have? I have the Diamond edition with both expansions.
Also, I have Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium service pack 1 on my computer.

Try running nwnmain.exe instead of nwn.exe. It should be in your C:\Neverwinter Nights\NWN folder.

I run diamond nwn.exe, with both administrator mode and compatibility mode on. Both the regular and the DM client work fine, except for occasional crashes(related to my graphics card, from what I can tell). I never got a message like the one you gave me; once I'd managed to patch(contact me if you need a link to where to download the patch, the one linked on our forums doesn't work!(unless calan fixed it)) it was fine. I read once that you had to have CEP installed to even run the game on windows vista/7, so if you haven't done that, try it.

EDIT: You might have to make sure nwnmain.exe is also set to run as admin and in compatibility mode, I'm not sure. I think I did it anyway just to be safe. This windozeVII thing is new to me too. I'm a linux girl. :( (And, so far, utterly unimpressed with the fine display of security theater.)

I should also mention my copy of NWN has a lot of mods I added too. This was done when I was playing on my Windows xp PC. When I got my latest PC (Windows 7), I didn't reload the game and everything, I simply copied the entire mess from my older PC to my newer one and overwrote the installed copy on my new PC.
