Full Name: Benjamin William Cordin
Age: 17
Place of Birth/Hometown: Cambridge, England
Date of Birth: August 12th
Heritage: He is a half-blood. His father, William Cordin, is a Welsh wizard who attended Hogwarts as a Gryffindor and works for the Ministry of Magic in the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes, specifically on the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad. His mother, Jennifer Cordin, is a British muggle from London who teaches English at Oxford University. He is his parents’ only child and they brought him up to be a very moral person. Among the many lessons they taught him, the one that sticks with him the most is to use his head before his wand. He grew up in Cambridge and spent most of his time there before coming to Hogwarts. He studied various subjects in programs for younger kids at the university and spent time with a lot of scholarly folk that were friends of his mom at the university. The result from his bringing up is a well educated person with a strong moral compass.
Description: He is tall, standing at 5’11 with short cut dark brown hair and deep intelligent dark brown eyes that sometimes glint with a fierce determination. He keeps his hair neat most of the time and he has a clean shaven face. His skin is only slightly tanned and he has a light, sturdy build, weighing about 160 lb. He’s doesn’t seem that muscular, but he does seem fit.
Personality: He is quite intelligent and demonstrates it in all of his classes. He is not exactly shy, but he’s not really outgoing and doesn’t go out of his way to meet new people. Once he meets people though, he is quite friendly. He was brought up to have a very strong sense of moral obligation and he tries to uphold justice whenever he can. Being brought up at the university he has a lot of respect for authority figures, especially his professors, because he understands their commitments. For the same reason, he can’t stand authority figures that abuse their power or don’t do what they are supposed to do with it. He learned from his mother that words and writing are more effective ways of solving problems than fighting and he tries to solve conflicts without the use of his wand if possible, though he knows from his father that there will be times when a wand is necessary and makes sure that he is as ready as he can be with it. He has disdain towards people who think themselves superior to others based on their blood or social status, and as a result, he has gotten into conflicts with many other students. As the Gryffindor male prefect, Ben works directly with Professor McGonagall and has close relations with most of the staff, occasionally even writing letters directly to Professor Dumbledore. Professor Snape is an exception to this due to the fact that he hates that Professor McGonagall was able to empower Ben so that his reports are listened to, and he takes out his loathing on Ben. One effect of his prefect job on his life though is that it has isolated him and made many other students resent him, so he has few close friends.
Interests: He practices with his wand as much as he can, because his father embedded into his mind that you can never be too good and that the more you practice the less chance you have of making mistakes. Also, while he doesn’t really admire dueling as a solution to problems, it is his favorite sport and he practices his dueling skills frequently. From his early studies at the university, he developed a love of learning and he studies as often as he can; reading and writing regularly. Someday he hopes to write a book. He likes to research into new ways of using magic and constantly works on complex projects to try and understand the theories behind it. He exercises this interest by creating complex research projects for his N.E.W.T.s classes. He also enjoys playing wizard chess, being an alright player himself, and is an avid collector of Famous Witches and Wizards Cards.
Status: Seventh Year Hogwarts Student
House: Gryffindor
Favorite Classes: All of them really. He sees the importance of all of his classes and puts as much effort as he can into his work. He enjoys Defense Against the Dark Arts, Charms, and Transfigurations the most, but he really excels at History of Magic, Ancient Runes, and Arithmancy. The only class he really has no aptitude for is Divination, but he knows enough about what he is expected to see and reads the books carefully enough to make stuff up and scrape by with a decent grade.
Favorite Teacher: Professor McGonagall. He really likes Professor McGonagall because of her teaching methods and how she treats each of her students equally. The fact that she is the teacher of Transfiguration, one of his favorite classes, and the head of Gryffindor House, certainly comes into play with that too. Ben also works directly with her as the male Gryffindor prefect.

N.E.W.T.s Classes and Projects:
Advanced Transfiguration: He is conducting a study into conjuring and vanishing to see what that magic actually does, and how the magic involved in both can be used in new and different ways.
Ancient Runes: He is conducting a study of warding and defensive runes used in ancient tombs and magical castles, and experimenting with these to see if it is possible to use runes to protect the mind from attack; an extended form of occlumency.
Arithmancy: He is working on mathematical research to predict the outcome of his other research.
Charms: He is researching and experimenting with advanced defensive charms and enchantments to try and create more effective ways to protect oneself from harmful spells.
Defense Against the Dark Arts: He is investigating in the effects of powerful dark curses and trying to create effective magical defenses against them. His Herbology and Potions projects also combine slightly with this one as he searches for possible cures to the permanent effects of these dark curses.
Herbology: He is experimenting with the hybridization of different plants to try and create new magical properties that could be used as cures for common diseases or curses. Some of the plants involved in his experimentation are: Mandrakes, Venomous Tentacula, Murtlap, and Bubortubers.
History of Magic: He is researching into the separate rises of Gellert Grindelwald and You Know Who to look for trends, and he is writing an essay comparing the two to show his finds.
Potions: He is experimenting to try and find a universal cure to common curses and jinxes. This project works a little with his Herbology and Defense Against the Dark Art projects as he is also trying to use his finds in Herbology to look for possible cures to some conditions that are considered permanent, such as brain damage, dark curse damage, and heavy memory loss.
