Kayla Anne Lalonde

Kayla is a spindly girl, standing at 5'9" with a thin frame and weighing just under 100 pounds. In defiance of the rest of her body, her facial features are rather strong, making her a interesting piece of art to observe. Never tied back, her thin red hair is left to its own devices, hanging down a few inches past her shoulder blades. One of her more striking features is her dark brown eyes which almost appear to be black, giving her a rather intense and enthralling stare. Lacking any scars or tattoos, her skin is immaculate, with a rather cadaverous complexion from her time spent indoors.

Other then her constant use of eyeliner, she is almost never seen wearing make up. The only jewelry she dons consists of metal arm bands, as well as a brass ring, tied around her neck with a black leather cord, and a pair of skeleton earrings, which dance as Kayla moves, their ruby eyes often sparkling when the light touches them. Her clothing is rather plain. In the school, it usually consists of black, knee-high leather boots, black jeans, and a red tank top. While her clothing can be more varied when she is out among muggles, it usually consists of the same basic items.

It is always difficult to understand what Kayla is thinking, with her eccentric behavior and
sometimes cold manner continually masking her feelings. To understand her, one must study her eyes, as they reveal a perpetual line of chaotic emotions and desires. An introvert, she spends much of her time alone, studying or simply observing other people and her surroundings, only choosing to take action if she feels it is needed, or will help her achieve her goals. As such, she comes off as distant, perhaps even haughty at times, and remains uncaring of the opinions people have of her.

Kayla lives alone with her father, Isaac, in a modest apartment in London. With no real friends at all, Kayla spends her time off school at home, locked up in her room, only leaving to fulfill basic needs and visit various graveyards during the hours of dwindling daylight. Having been raised by her father alone, Kayla was unaware of her magical heritage until she was invited into Hogwarts. Her mother Lindsay, as Kayla has slowly uncovered, was a half-blood that worked as an auror for the ministry. The only things Kayla has that belonged to her mother are her skeleton earrings, a single picture, and various drawings she has made of her mother’s tombstone - which was put up despite the fact her mother’s body was never found, the only evidence of her death being a fatally large pool of her blood, found a few weeks after Kayla’s birth. Some may speculate this is part of the reason for Kayla’s odd behavior, and the most eccentric of her interests, although it remains unclear to this day what affect the knowledge of her mother’s death has had on her.

Perhaps the one thing Kayla is best known for is her extreme interest in the concept of Zombies. Kayla spends a fair amount of her free time studying, reading books or watching movies that deal somehow with zombies in some shape or form. Through this, Kayla has developed a thick skin, able to withstand all but the goriest of scenes, and bravery that makes it difficult to frighten her. With her introduction to magic, Kayla has reaffirmed her belief that there could be zombies somewhere, and remains skeptical the claims of other students that they do not exist, especially as she hears more about the so-called ‘Dark arts’. The brass ring she wears, she discovered during a divination class after asking where the zombies were. Also, one of her more famous lines when she was young, was to ask “Is it a Zombie?!” whenever she didn’t know what something was.

Kayla’s interests extend far beyond the concept of Zombies, however. A intelligent girl, Kayla is usually at the top of her class in Defense Against the Dark Arts, and at the very least in the middle for the rest of classes, her magical abilities mainly lacking in healing spells, despite the effort she puts into her studying. She has some talent when it comes to drawing, although the somewhat morbid focus of her art is gravestones - dozens of binders spread out among her things at school a filled from the first to the last page with picture after picture of them, from the new and pristine, to the old a crumbling, her drawings giving each of them a unique hint of life. Although she doesn’t play any instruments or sing, she does spend much of her time at home listening to metal, when she can.
