Zoe and Eve Petrova grew up in Oxford. Their parents were both Professors of Russian at Oxford University; it was how they had met.

Despite high parental expectations, Zoe always thought she'd grow up to do something entirely ordinary. To her parents' disappointment she never got more than average grades, never excelled at any sport or extra curricular activity, just got by. She was pretty, but not beautiful. Had a few friends but was never greatly popular. Her closest confidant was her sister Eve. She spent most of her time drawing or playing games.
