Name: Gaius Barker
House: Gryffindor
Birthdate: October 24
Family and History: He is the only child of the now late Muggles Mycroft and Hannah Barker. His Father was a Professor of Chemistry while his Mother taught children at the nearby school. Their lives were cruelly cut short when Gaius was four years old, their car hit by a drunk driver whilst they were returning to pick up Gaius from his Grandmother's house.
Although never one to be center of attention, Gaius had become even more withdrawn in the years since the death of his parents. He'd spend most of his time alone reading books, playing the piano and solving various forms of puzzles, he'd even take time to consider criminal mysteries he'd read in newspapers or books.
His Grandmother raised him as best she could, providing a peaceful country home and having money enough to afford him an education which nutured his impressive intellectual talents, where he'd show impressive prowess in the fields of deduction, logic, observation, insight and science.
However, whenever alone Gaius would often display strange abilities that he could not understand. It was the summer before his eleventh birthday when a wizard visited him, explaining to him what he was and offering him a place to a wizard school. It later became apparant that his Grandmother was a squib, who had retreated from the wizarding community at a young age. She was very much suprised that Gaius was a wizard as her own son demonstrated no such magical talent. Accepting his request to join Hogwarts, she told him all she could remember to aid him for life in the wizarding world.
His Grandmother passed away two weeks after his Seventeenth birthday, leaving him the family home and enough money to live very comfortably.
Appearance: Gaius has dark hair and dark eyes. He stands at around 5'10 with his weight at 120lbs, making him quite seriously underweight. Yet his clothing and eating habits would suggest otherwise.
Favourite subjects: Potions, DADA, Charms and Ancient Runes.
Personality, traits and interests:
Growing up Gaius was quite introverted, only pursuing endevours of interest. He does generally like people yet is somewhat emotionally detached, which may be as result of his parents death. However If needs be Gaius is perfectly able to feign emotion as he is a close observer of behaviour. He can understand the reasons behind emotion but is unable to truly expierience them himself, forgoing such notions as House Points, verbal insults, intimacy and even victories in Qudditch. He also sometimes unintentionally offends people when making his observations.
He has also had to adapt his intellect and logic to accept the possibilites that magic can create. Although this was hard for him at first he is managing well.
Gaius would be able to function fine if he chose an isolated life. Yet he recognizes the benefits of companionship and will start up a conversation with anyone. He is close with Tomar, who unknowingly helps him stay rooted in social activity and has become drawn to Priggo, finding the fellow increasingly interesting even though it has been a good while since they last spoke. He'd also consider himself very friendly with Rhea, Kris, Drith, and Chance and certain others.
When in deep thought Gaius will often pursue trivial and somewhat subconcious acts such as stacking floo pots, piling wizard cards and sometimes working a Rubix Cube. He has on occasion also shown a childlike manner during these periods of contemplation, often playing with toy cars, Lego, or drawing with crayons. Incidently he wears a Mickey Mouse watch.
A trait most likely inherited from his Father, Gaius loves to research and experiment. When free he will often be found in his common room working on his own brand of potions.
Gaius usually requires something to stimulate his mind otherwise he feels stale and depressed. If there's nothing of interest for him to do, he tends to dabble in a number of vices.
During his later school years, Gaius has taken it upon himself to actively work on the side of justice, stepping in to stop acts before they happen or busying himself with finding the perpetrator by conducting investigations. More recently he's had a tendancy to bend his ethics to solve greater puzzles.
Once he leaves Hogwarts he most likely will end up as some form of Private Detective.
Recent Developments:
Gaius's grandmother has passed away. She has left him the country home and everything she owns as inheritence. Being of age Gaius also has full access to the money left to him by his parents. Suffice to say that if he chose to, Gaius could live quite comfortably without having to work a day in his life.
Finding the country home too big and too far away to suit his purposes, he has decided to rent it out to Muggle's. He has found a fair sized apartment in Diagon Alley which will now serve as his new home.
