To That Which Has Fallen

Oh, sorrowful to see
What has been set in stone
Mournful to me
Not in this world alone.

Fruits of labor
Vanishing in the air
What has taken much ardor
Now gone, I despair.

Over the tongue of folly
Your demise has been wrought
Shattering foundations so holy
Catastrophe was brought.

Such a shocking waste
To see what has been done
Words said in haste
Now can never be undone.

But what can I do now
I, a watcher from afar
To you whom my head I bow
Stained by filth and tar.

It is too far a dream
To hope to see you rise
A day when I beam
Too futile to surmise.

I have but one request
That is to have done your best
You have been a great bequest
Yet as you leave, I can never rest.
