I have a nagging feeling that I've asked this question before, but I couldn't find it on a search, so maybe it was on another forum.

Every now and then I suffer from an inability to make a lasting character. For some reason or other they quickly lose interest.

I was wondering what people found different between chars that have lasted the distance and are still played and ones that they got bored with quickly? What traits help to make an interesting and retainable char?

A few simple things that made things work out for my character were:

Start with a broad sense of the character in mind, but nothing too specific. Allow your character to be shaped through RP with others.

Don't select a set "path" or "destiny" that your character "has" to walk/fulfill. This will only set things in stone and make things become boring rather quickly. You start play here with an eleven-year-old child that's on the brink of hitting puberty. That's a very influential and vulnerable age. Couple that with a vast, odd and magical world and the possibilities are nearly endless. Explore new avinues and just have fun with a new character's mindset and see how it might change under the influence of others.

Whew, I hope that helps =)

What he ^ said........

I have only 1 character and don't have any interest in playing another. One reason for this is so I can better develope her by putting my attention completely on just 1 character.

Another reason for my playing only one character: I wouldn't be able to remember what each of the character's knows in comparison to the other characters. It would end up being a big blur and I would have characters acting on information they probably wouldn't know otherwise.......

The next time you see Gretta on, bring in your 1st year Ravenclaw character. Since both are in the same house they will have that in common and something to 'start a conversation' with.

Thanks for the advice. I think I do need to only focus on one or two chars instead of trying to play one from each House lol. I tend to try and do everything at once and then I wonder why I get confused.
