So, just got done with the Olympics event. I made this thread because I want some honest feedback on it, since it's the biggest DM thing I've done to-date. Compliments, criticism, it doesn't matter...I just want to know what you guys thought. What was good, what was bad, what you wished would happen but didn't...hit me with it. I already know about the timezone issue, that was probably the biggest drawback of the entire thing. Sorry to those of you that effected. :\ |

Why is no one answering her? :c From what I heard, it was wonderful. Plus, the idea in general was really creative! (: |

The archery event would have been better if the archers were given bows and arrows. |

OOCly it would have been nice to watch them shoot arrows instead of reading. |

I thought about the bow and arrows as well, but decided against it shortly before the event started. It could have been done as part of the uniform, but most people would have needed an item that let them equip bows in the first place. More trouble than it's worth, just to see them actually holding a bow. Edit: Yendys, there used to be an item that gives you an extra weapon feat. It would have been kind of simple to make a bracer with it for the archers, but again, more trouble than it's worth. As for the events themselves, I think Ratty got it about right. It was creative, and that everybody had to do it evenly, via rolls, was kind of nice. As for the timezone issues, this is something that's always been a problem. I was glad that there was at least one event at a rather Euro-friendly time (can't remember if it was more than one. Didn't have any real problems attending anyway). So all in all, a thumbs up. |

Loved what I was there for. I still think we should snag Wrestling as an event next time 'round. |

Could have just made the archery event a crossbow event hehe. I didn't manage to make any of the events due to sucky timezones, but I did have a look at the Olympic pool and that looked cool. Plus it was a great event idea. Hands up who wanted to keep the pool? Underwater chess anyone? |

As to the Olympics, I really enjoyed it! It'd been a while since a chain of events was planned like that and it was fun The rolls are bloody evil though and I'm sure Seril agrees with me there |

I'm just catching up on the forums reading, that's why this is delayed. I thought the events were great! I enjoyed the idea/concept of using a muggle event to coordinate with the Hogwarts world. It was a very different event than most of us have been able to get involved with in the past. A nice change of pace and flavor! I think Yendys handled it all marvelously. And all the time, energy, effort was greatly appreciated! Archery and Relay were actually on my top list precisely because they were the most heavily roleplayable events. Sure, our little avatars holding onto a bow and arrow would be cool... but the amount of effort it would have put onto Yendys to create all those gizmo's would have not been worth it since we all have great imaginations and know how to roleplay our characters holding a bow and arrow... right? The only issue I had, which isn't a secret, is that I'm rubbish at stats for my character. And I know a couple other people who's stats weren't a great representation of "who they are and what they're good at" ... so basing the characters performance solely on rolls was rather funny in some cases with those 1's. But it seemed like a few people in particular *cough* Seril *cough* had -really- bad luck with all their rolls. That's not a great reflection on what I feel the character was capable of. That said, I dunno how to do it any better since rolling is what creates the edge to an event! Otherwise we could have ended up with lots more god-mode rp. And none of us want that! BRAVO YENDYS, BRAVE! |

Yeah, a hybrid system with the rolls adding a modifier to some kind of "natural ability" score for each student for each event would have been better than relying soley on rolls. I was just afraid that if I did something like that, suddenly every student would have played water polo all summer! Never quite got around to working out a system that could give more stability to the dice rolls without being open to abuse of the system. I did wince a lot at some of the rolls you guys kept getting. :\ |

Was it that obvious? Haha, I actually think Seril's bad luck in certain events is usually pretty hilarious. I mean maybe he really did slip off of the diving board and snap his back, on a total fluke! I actually don't have any big qualms with rolls. I do agree that they usually don't accurately represent the PC, but it seems like the most fair option we have in events like this. For now anyways. That being said! I enjoyed the heck out of the Olympic events that Seril and I could attend. It was awesome fun and a pleasure to RP. |
