But you do have to tell us when you change things, because why would we type "/e help" if we didn't suspect that you had changed how the system works? :P

ie: converting skills from d20 to d8 w/o warning. :|

I did tell you, Yendys.

However I don't think the D8 thing made it specifically into an announcement as it probably should have, so many things were changing it slipped through.

What's this D20 to D8 thing? I don't remember that.

On both counts(/e time and d8) you told me that you intended to change it. I never got the "I have changed it" update, however. :P

Charity, WoHP skill rolls roll with a d8 instead of a d20 now.

NWN skills aren't really used for anything, so it wouldn't matter. But no, those still run by d20 as far as I'm aware.

I split this to a new topic since it had nothing to do with the train ride any more. :P

Ok the reason for the d8 rolls is because the skill points simply needed more weight. I can best explain with an example of two people rolling natural 8 or 20 vs natural 1:

Player1: nat1 + 10 = or 11
Player2: nat8 + 0 = 8

In the example above, no matter what, with 10 skill points player 1 is always going to beat player 2 on this hypothetical roll. But if d20 is used:

Player1: nat1 + 10 = 11
Player2: nat20 + 0 = 20

Now player 2, with absolutely no skill points and no RP into a skill, can strongly beat player 1 in the roll even though they have obviously put a lot of RP into their 10 points.

In short, using a d8 has made the skill points worth 2.5 times more than they were with a d20. Nearly everything in the scripts internally uses a d8, so it made sense to have the same scaling used when a /e roll skill is used. The d8 is used so that your skill points mean far more than the die does.

Now /e roll20 was supposed to still use a d20, but I've "fixed" it like 3 times and it's still not working. So if you want to really nerf yourself and use a d20 instead, then you can type /e roll20 skill instead, but it will have to wait until I can actually fix it.

Now that you explain it like that... I get why you put a d8 in. I was very blah with it being a d8 instead of a d20, but after you pointed that out, I think I'm more comfortable with the d8 and why it's being used.

I think I understand now too.

Reminds me of another question I had regarding skills though. You get 4 skill points every time you year up; is it possible to get more through RP or you are stuck with only 4?

It's possible to be granted skill points for performing RP, yes. Examples of this would be characters who attended special training, or fairly exceptional levels of self-study. 90%+ of RP would receive RP points, rather than skill points.
