This is an issue that has come up before, but occasionally needs revisiting.
Before you RP murdering another player's character, even with their permission, you must have permission for the action from a GM beforehand. Not so that we can dictate your every IC move, but because the consequences of such actions are far-reaching. When we log in as GM's and get a tell saying "Hey, I just killed so-and-so, can you come in as a teacher and freak out over it?" and such, it puts us in a difficult position.
The last thing we want to do is squash creativity, or undo good RP that's already been done. But we can't just have students killing each other off on a regular basis either. Needless to say, the offender would get more than a talking-to by Dumbledore.
Realistically, unless under very unique circumstances, it just doesn't work for long-term roleplay.
The same goes for suicides, especially public ones. Talk about putting a damper on the end of the year feast!
We want you all to be creative, and to have fun. That's what we're here for. With a little more communication, I'm sure a solution can be found in these situations that will appeal to everyone and not interrupt the flow of everyday IC life.
Thank you for your efforts and the great RP you do!

You know I enjoy saying my catchphrase. You gave it to me too easily.
So I won't. =P

Not GM approved, which I think was the whole point of this thread. The -alleged- murder was just someone trying to take credit, as it were, for someone who in reality disappeared from the mod because they were banned. Whole thing was a bit silly if I remember right.

I thought it was extremely good rp (except me and paul dressing as death eaters). The person who was banned had a whole RP reason for acting as he did and i had managed to get him to stop jinxing people when he got banned timing or what?. Anyway just because its not DM approved does that mean it didnt happen? (just curious dont mean to say everyhting DM led)

I'll let Nik comment on that for current server purposes.
I wasn't actually present for those events, but I had some of the GMs commenting on it then. I think the issue was not just RPing without GMs present (which is, of course, expected) or pre-approving storylines, but actually carrying forward with something against GM recommendations even after going to the trouble to ask for such. What aggravated the situation further was that it happened during a rash of annoying troublemaker visits to the mod and subsequent bannings.

I think the post is a pretty good one when it comes to how things should
be done. As I'm hearing it, however, this person took the credit of a
murder that didn't even happen.
So no, it didn't happen.
If I'm incorrect, feel free to set me straight. Then I'll edit this accordingly.

Leaving the server, either voluntarily or otherwise (by being banned), is not the same thing as an in-character death. Some might say it's the folks left behind that get to decide how to RP it. And that's fine, but what if the person comes back? What if the ban is lifted? What if they want to RP that their character is still alive? RP can never be one-sided.

I'm not so sure on what really happened with the murder, but the suicide -did- happen. Hell, Kris was -holding- the kid as he did it.

The person who got banned wanted his character to be killed, may i ask, why was he banned in the first place?
