Snow drift softly down into the eternal gray of the night, a hazy glow spouted from a dimly lit lantern. Jacob sat on the snow laden log, blankly staring at the black rose before him, whose petals had withered. He had pressed his finger too hard to its thorns as he tried to hold onto it, and crimson droplets sprinkled from his hand and dotted the pure white ground. Glassy streams broke from his hardened eyes, as he watched the rose slip just from his grasp and land on the bed of pure white, slowly coating with purifying flakes, slowly becoming less and less visible. He stood up, reaching for the rose he plucked it out of the snow, holding it gently in his hands. "I put my hopes, my life, and my soul into you.. But still.. I lose all that I've worked for." He slowly crushed the black crystal rose into tiny shards. His blood glistened in the moonlight, trickling down his fingers and hitting the white blanket of snow. He looked down at the small circle of crimson snow. He then reached down and dug a small hole, burying the tiny black shards underneath the snow. "..Goodbye." He spoke to the shards, as if they were alive. Though he knew them only as his shattered dreams. Slowly, he stood up and walked off, leaving nothing behind but his wilted, shattered, crystal rose. |
