A rose is like a human. Growing and growing, eating and drinking, and then withering away to death.

A small hand slid it's fingers under the flower head, holding on gently, not letting the flower feel any pain.

"Diffindo."

As the spell surged forward into the thorned stem, the skin began to rip. The binds and ligaments that held the head to the body. They ripped. They tore away. They were broken.
The hand raised the flower up to a nose, the fragant petals brushing the soft skin.

"It's beautiful..."

Demille brushed her black hair behind her ears, and carefully placing the rose head on the water surface; the lake lay in front of her, the sun's rays rippling across the warm water.
She lay back, watching the rose drift further into the horizon. Her eyelids closed softly, as a blissful cloud drifted across the sky.
The shadow from the cloud floated over her.
Followed by another cloud.
And another.
Followed by more clouds, until the Scottish sky was filled with grey clouds overhanging the castle and lake.
Demille opened her eyes and sighed, folding her arms over her chest. As she did so, a kelpie floated to the surface of the lake, it's clammy hand grabbing the beautiful red rose. It stuffed the flower head into it's mouth and dived back under the water.

"... Why do all good things come to an end?"

On the girl's lap, lay a small, felt book. With a flick of a wand, the cover opened. The book was a photo album, showing pictures of the black haired girl and her friends. Another flick of the wand led to the next page. The girl sighed, and flicked her wand slowly, the pages turning faster, and faster. And then... Stop.
The page left open showed a boy. Not just any boy. Veric Ster. She'd heard nasty rumours about him, she could never trust someone like him. He looked too dressed up whenever she saw him. It was like he was trying to catch her eye. That didn't exactly appeal to her; mind games always freaked her out, and she usually laughed at someone trying to be someone they weren't.
A memory began to float into her head. It was one situated in her Common Room. At the pool. Should she have slapped him? Why wasn't she ready? It was only one kiss; nothing serious. Maybe...
Before she could make up her mind, her mother's anxious and worried voice drifted into her head... However, this time, her voice was calm, a voice she only used once in a blue moon.

"If you judge people, you have little time to love them."
