The sun slowly drove itself below the horizon. Allowing it's lover, the moon, to take it's place in the sky. Guiding all it's children to slumber, much like a mother wishes their young away to a peaceful, content, rest. The Ravenclaw boy, already tucked deep within the confines of his room, missed this. Much like he missed most events that happened around the school these days. It'd be another lonely night for him, another sleepless one as well.
His eyes wandered towards his surroundings, from his quiet nook in the leather chair. Ryan's typical bold, sapphire gems appeared weak, even watered down as they landed upon the sunflower painting which hung cheerfully above his bed. Normally uplifting, the painting taunted him and everything he felt was gone from him. She painted it, it was hers, it reminded him of her. Now that he thought about it, everything did. There wasn't a spot in the school that he didn't have a memory of her. From the entrance hall, to the rooftop.
Ryan traced his fingers along a moon shaped pendant, that hung boisterously around his neck. She gave him this, she was his moon. She claimed that he was her sun, which matched her own pendant. The moon, when close to the sun necklace, kept the always overheated Ravenclaw cool, and at ease, while the sun kept the cold, Gryffindor girl warm. He needed his moon back, his world was falling to pieces. But, did she even want him anymore. He wasn't sure anymore, and he wasn't sure he could keep it together anymore.
Each day, it grew worse for him. "Why won't she just come back, and make this right?" Ryan couldn't help but think out loud. Each moment apart, wounded him more. Could this separation truly be what made her happy. He had to honor it, He had to let her go and do this, he couldn't keep her pinned despite his need for her.
"January twenty-third. The day we made it official, though she had already begun to make me a better man weeks earlier." The boy spoke again, out loud.
He traced his fingers along the side of his face, then brushed them back. Tugging at the short strands of charcoal which comprised of his hair. Couldn't she see what she was doing to him? Did she want it this way?
The Ravenclaw closed his weak eyes. But not for slumber, to fight back weakness.
"All I have now is my knowledge of wands. Fat lot of good that does, when even wands remind me of her. I think about her wand's core, Unicorn hairs."
This knowledge was a curse, he could tell almost everything about a person by the type of wand that bonded to them.
"Unicorn hair is a more subtle core, but it is quite compatible with Charms and Transfiguration. It is also hands-down the best core for healing, as it picks up some of the healing capabilities of unicorn blood. Unicorn hair has a reputation of picking gentler or more cerebral users, so it is common amongst Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws. More laid-back Gryffindors and subtler Slytherins may find themselves with a Unicorn hair wand."
He quoted the textbook definition of her wand core, even including the type of Hogwarts students that would get this. Mr Ollivander taught him well. Even if he left the school, he wouldn't be able to forget her. She had to come back to him, she just had too.
Ryan went on to talk about wands, dissecting his own wand.
"Dragon heartstring is a powerful wand with a lot of magical heft. It is not the core you want for subtlety, but for sheer power it is definitely the best. Although it is the most common core among Dark Wizards, Dark Wizards are most certainly not their most common users. Dragon heartstrings are by far the most common wand core amongst Slytherins, but their power often bonds to Gryffindors and Ravenclaws as well. However, they tend to overwhelm the archetypal Hufflepuff personality."
He understood the part about the Dark wizards. The core was strong, and powerful, and power often corrupted. But was he really strong? Any strength he had was thanks to her. Maybe the wand just predicted the future, so long ago. He went on explaining his wand out loud.
"Mahogany is a good all-around wood, not particularly powerful in any one situation, but a good solid overall wood."
He didn't even think that was true about himself. If he was good, and solid, none of this would have happened. All that he was depended upon her. Ryan eventually hushed himself, laying dormant in his chair. He hoped she would remember soon.
