Post subject:  A Hufflepuff's Tale by Alexander Green

// This is my forum character. I started him because we all know I can out-class Allie at this =p You won't see him around on the mod itself for a fair while. Enjoy the posts... I hope//

As Alexander stepped into the Hogwarts grounds he stopped to take a deep breath. Despite his nervousness he wore a wide grin at the thought of what was to come. Striking up a cheery whistle he put his best foot forward and set off for the castle that he would soon come to think of as home.

He knew he was a few days late but he had been very ill at home so he had been unable to get here any sooner. As he entered the Entrance hall he stopped and looked about in awe. He took in the House-points house glasses, the Goblet of Fire with it's glowing age line and a ghost gliding casually along the far end of the hall. He stopped a large Gryffindor and asked for directions to the Great Hall. The boy gave him and friendly smile and escorted him to the hall and told him to put on the Sorting Hat. With trembling hands Alexander placed the Sorting hat on his head, though he did have to try twice because he missed his head due to nerves on his first attempt. He could hear the hat making thoughtful noises but it soon decided where he ought to be.

"HUFFLEPUFF!" the hat cried. The Hufflepuff table, less crowded than usual, gave him a loud clap and he went over to join their table. As he sat down next to a couple of other students he thought it best to enquire about his brother.
"Excuse me" he said, turning to a skinny little black haired girl on his right. "Do you know a young boy called Jacob Green?"
The girl gave a slight nod "Oh yes! He's a Hufflepuff too you know. A very nice young boy." She spoke quickly, an obvious energy about her. She seemed nice enough but the wild look in her eyes unnerved Alex slightly.
"Oh.. thanks" said Alex uncomfortably.
Soon after this he grabbed up his bags and, once again striking up a cheerful whistle, headed down to the Hufflepuff common room.

[ Just a note to Adam and everyone else: Allie sought and received permission in advance to undertake his forum-born character experiment. Intrigued to see what you have in mind, though.]

//I'm aware, don't worry. This guy isn't going to like Jang at all. He's going to actually have the ability to go 5 seconds without wanting to kill everyone in the room =p He's my huggle-tastic Hufflepuff of DOOM

Also, if you find a typo -please- PM me. I hate those things so much. The must be destroyed//

Days went by quickly for Alexander. They seemed to blend into each other so that he was never quite sure what day it was or when things had happened. He was so busy catching up on the work he missed due to his illness that he hadn't had a great deal of time to socialise or explore. Still, he had never been happier. He wrote to his parents in his spare time. Countless rolls of parchment had been sent home already and he was only two weeks into the term. As he rolled up a lengthy essay about the properties of Ashwinder eggs, he thought back to his first lesson in each subject. He gave a small laugh as he remembered each of the teachers claiming their subject was the most important and challenging. Glancing up at the clock breifly, he heaved his bag onto his back and made his way to the dormitory and, soon after laying down, fell deeply asleep.

The next day he woke up late and as he checked his watch he saw that was going already 10 minutes late for Charms. he rushed around in a panic, collecting up his books, quills and parchment. How could it be that he had slept so late, knowing full-well that he had his favourite subject first period? He bolted out of the common room and ran straight through a ghost who's name he didn't know. Madam Pince gave him a look of pure hatred and he darted through the library, nearly knocking over an enormous pile of returned books. He finally arrived at the Charms room and doubled over, gasping for breath. He wasn't built for all this running. Give him a bow and a quiver of arrows and he was as happy as could be... but make him run anywhere and he was about as happy as a pig in a slaughter house. After a few deep inhalations, he knocked twice on the door and, upon hearing Flitwick's call of "Come in", pushed open the door.

"Ah Mr Green. How wonderful that you decided to join us. Perhaps you could explain why you are so late?" The words were clearly not intended to be unkind, and Alex knew that Flitwick would fully understand that everyone occassionally sleeps late.
"Sorry Professor. I got held up by a group of seventh years who thought it'd be a good idea to jinx me for as long as possible." He didn't know -why- he lied about his lateness.. He just sort of did it. Not that he was a dishonest person by nature. He just didn't want his favourite teacher to think his lateness was his fault.
Flitwick gave a little frown before he spoke again "I shall make some investigations. People really ought to be nicer to eachother. Anyway, please take a seat. We're studying the Amor Facino charm."

Alex took his seat and worked frantically to catch up. He managed managed to complete the task on time and scribbled down his homework. The rest of the day passed in much the same fashion. Work, break, work, break, work, eat, sleep, repeat. Despite the reptitive nature of the school day, he felt content in a way that he never had at his old muggle school. After all, he was a wizard and what could possibly be better that? His usual whistled tune sprung once again to his lips as he walked off to dinner.

By the end of his second month at Hogwarts, Alex was finally beginning to understand the usefullness of the library. With each day that passed he found himself focussing less and less on his homework (Unless ofcourse it was Charms work) and more and more on finding out everything he could from the library. He spent hours shut away, reading the books of spells but rarely finding anything he was capable of of actually pulling off.

As per usual, Alex was in the library. He'd been told about about a new spell that he was desperate to get his hands on. Picking up a book from his pile, he sat down on the floor, leaning his back against the wall, and started flipping through the index.
