*This outside of this letter is addressed to the headmaster of the school and it is delivered to his office. It is written in black ink and the writing is in a small neat hand*

Dear Professor Dumbledore,

Recently the halls at Hogwarts have not been quite calm. While I know that this is Hogwarts and that it will never be completely calm, some of the things I have seen happening recently in the halls shock me. I have seen many instances of students jinxing each other in the entrance hall over small disputes and I have seen quite a few of these fights escalate into real violence. What worries me even more is how many of the students taking part in these fights are seventh years and other experienced students who know the rules, but choose to disregard them. I will not go into detail about any specific events in this letter, but there have been several occasions when I have seen these things happen with prefects present and the prefects have failed to take action. I am sure that you are already aware of these things, but I felt that I needed to do something, because this is quite worrying happening at Hogwarts, and I hope something is being planned to fix these problems.

*The letter is signed in a neat cursive on the bottom*

Sincerely,

Benjamin Cordin, Gryffindor House

*Another letter is left on the desk of the headmaster. It is written in the same ink and with the same handwriting*

Dear Professor Dumbledore,

I am quite sorry to bother you again, but as I have recieved no response to my first letter and there have been no improvements in the current situation, I am forced to write to you again. This time I have a specific case that I feel I need to bring up. Last night, a Gryffindor student, Tessera Dias, was late getting back to the castle and was scolded by a Ravenclaw prefect Kris for being out after curfew. She noticed however on her way out of the entrance hall that another Ravenclaw seventh year, named Paul, was standing right next to Kris and that he was not being sent to bed. She came up to the common room and told all of this to me after. While I told her that it would be taken care of, she insisted on going to Professor McGonagall at once to report Kris for abusing his power. She left and I didn't go after her, because I didn't want to break curfew myself. However, a few minutes later, I recieved a help message from her and I decided that it was best to go after her. I went down to the entrance hall where I knew she would have gone to get to Professor McGonagall's office and sure enough she was there at the stairs with Kris and Paul standing there. She was being hexed by Paul while Kris stood by. I approached Kris and asked him what was going on. His response was to tell me to just go to bed. I stayed, because I found it quite shocking that he would be alright with the use of spells on another student to enforce curfew, and when I questioned him about it, he responded that it was the only weapon that he had. I then also asked why Paul was there seeing as how he isn't a prefect, and his response was that Paul wouldn't listen to him anyway if he told him to go to bed. I told Paul to let Tess go and that I would take her up to the common room, which he didn't do right away. I am afraid Tess didn't come right away when I told her to either and tried to jinx Paul. Neither of them stopped until Paul knocked Tess unconscious and I was forced to pull her back to the common room. After reviving her and getting her to her feet, I asked her to recount what had happened to her exactly and she insisted that Paul had suggested killing her to Kris and some other things. While I am not sure how true that really is and whether or not she just thought she heard that because she was scared, I do think that it should be looked into. I understand that neither I nor Tess are completely faultless in this matter, however I find this blatant disregard for the rules exhibited by a prefect to be quite disturbing. I don't believe that favoritism of friends and spellcasting on other students are how a prefect should be acting. I wouldn't have bothered you with this again, but it feels like this disregard for the rules is a common theme in the halls these days and although I would have hoped that the prefects would be the ones to deal with it, they don't seem to be doing anything about it. I know you must be very busy, but I would greatly appreciate it if you could find the time to examine these issues.

*signed at the bottom in the same neat cursive hand*

Sincerely,

Benjamin Cordin, Gryffindor House

//Just to clarify. This topic is not just for me to post in. I was actually hoping I might get a response from Professor Dumbeldore. I know that Professor Dumbledore might have chosen not to write back though, so I can understand that. I just want to make sure nobody thinks I'm just writing for myself. Please feel free to write here if you have anything relating to it.

*a short letter written in black ink and neat handwriting is placed on the headmaster’s desk among the other letters the headmaster receives.*

Dear Professor Dumbledore,

I’m sorry to bother you with this letter, but there is a matter of great importance that I feel needs to be brought to your attention. It is the current lack of prefects doing their duties. As you know, I recently got back from a trip to Europe and since I returned, I have not seen a single prefect doing their duty, and I haven’t even seen the head boy or head girl, let alone, see them doing their jobs.

This is quite worrying to me and I have seen an immense rise in the number of rule breakers and students up after curfew due to the lack of enforcement behind the rules and prefect inaction. I have been doing what I can to crack down on these rule breakers, but I am not sure if I can handle the job on my own; I have been already been attacked on multiple occasions. I can handle myself in those situations, but what worries me most is the boldness of the rule breakers; most of them do not seem frightened at all by the prospect of being reported and punished, because it is usually not followed up on and the lack of prefect action means that there are no consequences to their actions.

Professor McGonagall asked me to follow up on this and crack down on the rule breaking, and I will do so. Hopefully that will ease the rule breaking situation. As to the prefect situation, I’m not sure what solution to propose, because I do not want to undermine the authority and positions of my fellow prefects and the head boy and girl, but I feel that something must be done to remedy this situation.

Sincerely,

Benjamin Cordin, Gryffindor House Prefect

//I made this roleplay thread for Ben's letters to Dumbledore instead of sending the letters to a DM, because I'm not sure which DMs like to handle which things and I know that all of the DMs want to know what is going on.

*another letter in the same neat handwriting and black ink is delivered to the headmaster’s desk*

Dear Professor Dumbledore,

I must apologize profusely for bothering you again before you have even had time to respond to my first letter, but there is a specific matter, which I feel needs to be discussed as soon as possible. The matter I speak of involves the image and integrity of the school, and I would like to see it dealt with. The case I am speaking about is the unsavory relationship between Priggo Seville and Felien Siana.

As I am unsure if you are aware of the particulars of this matter, I will elaborate. Apparently, shortly after I left on my trip, the two got involved in what must be called a submissive and master relationship with Priggo leading Felien with a leash and collar and forcing her to obey his commands. I have seen this type of behavior from the two occur multiple times in the entrance hall and, after I was asked by a few other students to address the issue, I approached each of them individually to see if I could get them to keep their relationship in private; however, neither of them agreed to listen to my requests.

While I understand that their own relationship preferences are their own, I must say that their behavior is unfitting for the image of this school and that I think it should be kept in private. I am certainly not alone in this opinion either; many students asked me to address this issue. What I feel makes matters worse is the fact that Felien is a prefect for Slytherin House. Being a prefect, I know that it is our duty to be good role models for the new students, and I feel that she is not only failing to do so, but is also demonstrating a very negative example of how to behave for new students to follow.

I also feel it is important to bring up the point that if parents knew about this matter, I am sure they would bring up issues with the school. I believe this issue can be resolved simply by not allowing them to continue their unsavory relationship in public while at this school, but, of course, it is not my place to make that ruling. I wanted this brought to you as soon as possible, because I feel that a matter like this, which is harming the image and integrity of the school, should be addressed as quickly as possible. Thank you for taking the time to read my requests.

*signed in neat cursive on the bottom of the parchment*

Sincerely,

Benjamin Cordin, Gryffindor House Prefect

((If we're not roleplaying that Dumbledore is dead, can one of the DM's tell us? It'd be pretty awesome to be able to roleplay via forums writing him letters/ receiving them/ etc.))

((Dumbledore isn't dead. I think most of the players are aware of this.
Especially the player who wrote letters to Dumbledore.))

I think what the person is trying to say Nik is that they don't realize that this is the World of Harry Potter. Not Harry Potter: (Some lame server book name).

Not all life changing events exist on the server that did in the books.

I think what Lilith--who played with us for quite some time before going away for a while--is actually trying to say, D_Black, is "Has there been a change in the way we approach the HP universe?" And the answer is yes, as a matter of fact there has, thank you for asking.

For the first five years of the mod's development, the characters and events in the mod attempted to mirror those in the unfolding HP novels as closely as possible and practical. With the release of the seventh book, that finally became too much of a jarring disparity from what we want to have in the mod. We had an entire discussion on the forums for a very long period of time about how to handle this. Nik's solution was the alternate timeline approach, and our adoption of that coincided with his taking on the hosting duties.

I named the mod World of Harry Potter to distinguish our planned course from those of previous hosts, such as Harry Potter in Neverwinter Nights and Harry Potter Adventure--both of which have partial forum archives here in the Server section.
