We are getting hit with spikes as the city is trying to fix something... a huge chunk of the city is without power at the moment apparently.
We do have a huge UPS to back up the HP server for several hours in case we lose power for that long. So this -hopefully- will not affect you!
But just to inform you if the server does go down briefly, this is the reason and will be back up and running asap.

If we can survive the server disappearing as long as it did with Nik's disappearance. We can survive a power outage.

The server will experience some down time today. Hopefully it will be kept to 30 minutes or so, but could be as much as a couple hours.
I will be performing the following:
OS Updates
Rebooting the computer (first time since I took the server!)
Server module update
Full server backup (mod, vault, database)
I'm not sure of the exact time this will occur as we are still working on the update.

Getting the update ready took more time today than expected, so today I just updated without the down time. I will do the rest of the stuff tomorrow (Sunday).

Tomorrow, Saturday May 10, the server will be down in the morning for more OS upgrades. I will also do another backup, and a database compression (which hasn't been done before to my knowlege). I expect a couple hours down time, but should be during the non-busy portion of the day. I'll post again when it goes down for this and when it's back up.

Oh, that's nice, remove us Europeans time, just because we're not on!

Maintenance started at 8:30 am AZ time. The server will be up until somewhere around 9:30 to 10:30 at which time I will have to take it down for a while. Until then lag should be expected as the OS upgrades are downloading.

Server is now down for maintenance. I expect it to be down 1-2 hours, and will post when it is back up.

Server is back up. This was not a server update, but DM Login announcements have been truned on, and CR can now be seen when you examine a character.

I apologize for taking an hour or more of down time after I said 5 minutes, but my ISP wouldn't give me a connection after I tried to install the new modem. Took me a while to figure out what was going on, then was on hold for a while, and obviously didn't have a connection to let people know what was going on.
Anyway, the result is that I've got the new modem in, and am preparing for a service upgrade soon.

As Tucson enters "Monsoon Season" it is likely that the server will glitch out from time to time over the next month or so. Tucson gets -severe- and very localized thunderstorms, flooding and microbursts this time of year. (By severe I mean rain can drop -feet- worth of water in minutes, and by localized I mean it can be sunny 100 yards away from the flood.) The server computer is on UPS so if it does glitch out, the server will not have gone through a reset when internet comes back up and character data will not be lost. As time and money permits I will put the router and modem on UPS too, but as they are not physically near each other or the server computer I have to work this out. Even once that's in place, if our neighborhood loses power there's a good chance the ISP's equipment will also be down anyway, nothing I can do about that. This is a residential area and I don't know if their equipment is on a UPS or not. I'll try to send server messages or shouts when I know a storm is in the area that might take out power, but I may not get warning so I thought I would let everyone know.

The server crashed at 2:13 a.m. AZ time this morning. It is back up.
This is the second time the server has crashed, and both have been in the last week. The core that the server runs on was processing at 100%. It's possible that it's some script I wrote that is going haywire, it's possible it's someone doing it on purpose, it's possible it's completely accidental, and it's possible something in Bioware's code simply crashed. I'd like to narrow this down, if anyone knows anything at all please let me know so that I can take steps to keep the server up and running.
If you happened to be the one that crashed it and it wasn't intentional, no, you won't be in trouble. Please let me know what happened so I can fix the error.
