I'm trying to level up! A pox on all four of your houses! Stop being great, entertaining roleplayers so a Piñata can get some grinding done!!!
...seriously, though, what I'm trying to say is, you rock. And I desperately need XP after my rebuild. Yeah. That, too.

In all seriousness, both the players as well as the server "staff" like seeing a player take their time to go through the years rather than getting to 7th as fast as possible. It's the role play that is the focus of the server, and actually having some experiences in the "earlier years" of your character is important, and adds to the character-building.
I have a character (that usually hides in the Hufflepuff commons) that has been in fourth year for probably 9, if not 10 months. Funny thing is that homework has been about 90% complete for that entire time. It's just not time to year-up yet.
And of course, I have to agree with Tsunami. RP on this server deserves a trophy.

Well back in the day you had to stay in the first and second years for ages as they were the only years that were available! But yeah, it's good to spend a while in the earlier years as it's quite different roleplaying a kid to say a fourth year, and anyone that remembers alex from back then knows he was quite different (e.g. more of a goodie-two-shoes ) and it provides a good degree of variation.

Roleplay on a roleplay server. LOL! You guys crack me up. The whole point of this server is to be a seventh year.
Thanks for the great joke, though

Hey, I haven't seen Paul on the server while... I miss him!
In some cases I actually want to stay a first year, but the only problem with that is one you're incredibly weak, two there's not many spells you can use, and three pretty much all the DM events are for higher years.
And I've just realized it's really hard to RP a really shy timid character, as being shy and timid, you wouldn't go up to someone and talk to them probably, while no-one will really talk to you since you're not making conversation yourself...

Werekitty: Yes. That is EXACTLY what my job is. I earn £5.80 an hour doing it, too. Not bad, eh?
Alex: I know you haven't. I don't come on much anymore.. It just got boring for me.
Also Alex: I completely agree about the shy/timid thing. It's a real [censored], isn't it? I'd RP a shy character, but I found that problem last time I tried.

Well, both yes and no. I've been having the exact same problem, as my character is supposed to be a very insecure girl. However, it's a question of balance. Making contact doesn't necessarily mean going "HIYA HOW ARE U GAIZ DOIN?". A simple emote, like *looks shyly, but curiously, over at the group of students* should be more than enough to get other players going; at least it would, for me. There are many ways a player can establish contact with other players, nudging them to let their characters take charge in conversation, without having to play against character. At least, that's my experience. Personally, I would like to see the RL time limit for each graduation -far- extended. If what I heard was correct, it's three days now? Should be two weeks, in my opinion. At least. The whole elevator-to-7th-thing just seems... odd, in general.

Personally, I'd go even further than that. A month, or something, but I'm known for being a little.... extreme... at times >.> And, if it were to be done that way, you'd need to see more low-year events, (Can't confirm or deny a lack of these, but I read someone saying that was, so....)
