This is a relatively straightforward question.

An Oxford comma is (in blue): ...butter, milk, and eggs.
Otherwise, it would be: ...butter, milk and eggs.

An oxford comma is also known as a serial comma or a Harvard comma.

I asked it because I can. Also, I was bored.

I tend to favor the Oxford comma. Both ways are grammatically acceptable, but I find that some cases really call for the Oxford comma for added clarity, and so I usually use it by default.

I learned to use the Oxford comma in grade school. I can remember when it became popular to omit it, and being kind of annoyed by the change. I don't suppose that'll surprise some of you who know me.

:)

I was taught that the so-called Oxford Comma was The Right Way To Use Commas.

Period.

I guess I don't keep up with the latest grammar fads.

Ditto....
Except I had an English teacher in college tell me that it was wrong and marked down my papers when I used it.
(And if I had the smart mouth I occasionally have now, I probably would have asked him if it was alright to use proper Canadian spelling.... i.e. colour, neighbour, etc.)

I don't see why colour, neighbour, flavour and the like need to spelt any other way. I can't see any good reason for the 'u' to be omitted by certain countries with President Bush at the helm.

Pretty sure that the practice probably dates back much farther than when Bush (either one) was in charge. Back to the Revolution, maybe?

(Anyone out there a history buff? Or an etymologist?)

Edit - Found this ( http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=-or ) for anyone that's interested
