Okay thanks to Tera's post, I've decided to monkey around with some optional content that can spruce up the WoHP experience. Using a couple things she has, I managed to discover a really cool thing. World of Harry Potter, in first person.
Using the updated graphic pack she provided, as well as a modified GUI and tweaked executable, I can now view the server in a realistic way previously unknown. Ever noticed how even in the normal driving mode you can't quite achieve full first person because you'd still see the back of the head? The tweaked .exe adjusts the camera you can hide it and achieve and almost perfect eye level. But don't just take my word for it, I've prepared a few screenshots to prove my case.
My apologies for the brightness of this one, but I was using Isaac's Greater Missile Storm against some pixies. Yes folks, now you can see the spells cast as if it was really you behind the wand!
Another example of first person casting. Firebrand shows the arrows coming from your cast and sailing towards your foes!
Though getting used to the new view is a little difficult at first, you can still pull off AoE attacks at a far enough range to avoid personal damage. I wasn't fast enough with the screen capture button to avoid showing the first spider already blown to bits however.
Sadly this one had a slight problem when I pasted it over the other one, but it still shows the awesome view of Gringotts Wizard Bank from the eyes of a passing student.
Same issue, so I will have to fix them later tonight when I have time. I can still show you how the updated Great Hall looks through the eyes of a student. Stunning right?
So far I have yet to discover any major graphical side effects. It is entirely possible it might -slightly- lower game performance, but the lag I usually get is from having a wireless connection. As mentioned in the last post however there is at least one place where the game will crash from the graphic update. I'm still exploring to find more if there are any.
For those so inclined, here are the links to both downloads:
Custom GUI and First-Person view:
NWN CQ GUI(I downloaded them all, but for first person you really only need the Modified Client Executable. For the GUI shown in Tera's screenshot on the other thread, get GUI and Override Files. Might also need General, but I'm not 100% sure on that.)
Graphic Update:
NWN CQ Graphic(Only override is needed, but you can get the HAK if you really want.)
