My character was trying to work on first year herbology, but was knocked out by a snake. I remember reading that you're not supposed to respawn, but I don't really know what to do.

Respawn! We only don't like people to respawn if they're in the middle of rp, such as a fight... are are needed to stay in one place. But we just rp and assume that a little kid who was knocked out somehow magically was taken to the Hospital Wing, either by NPC classmates finding him or house elves or something.

So go for it. :) Respawn!

Oh, I see.

Should I be expecting to have this kind of thing happen or is it because I was in a higher year area? I'm not sure how to tell which areas are 1st year safe/safest.

If you're like me, which means REALLY LOUSY at combat style, you should expect to die/"knocked out" constantly. :) Just keep respawning. If you're decent at combat, you'll still need to respawn from time to time. Just keep at it! Obviously wandering into an area with Bigger Badder critters means you're likely to be done in.

Respawning is there to allow people to continue when there's no other IC help or way out, so absolutely please do respawn if that's the only way. The time that it's disruptive is when there's RP going on, usually a fight, someone gets KO'd, respawns, runs back to the EH and is all like "im rdy 2 fite u again n00b!" because there's just no way to explain that ICly and it's just an endless OOC battle if immortals who can't die.

So where was I... oh yeah. Please do respawn when your character is stuck KO'd somewhere and there's no IC way out of it. And yes, it's usually RP'd as a student or prof or elf found your character and took him to the Wing. Don't RP it as a magical teleport.

"Im going 2 fite u nub." *Immortal battles Calan.* A quick good idea to figure out where should be and shouldn't be is to just keep at it. Make yourself notes if you must... of what creature you had to kill when. Another good idea is to always ask an older student for help, if thats not your characters thing to ask for help. There are several interesting things around this, like tricking any of Ree's characters to do it for you.
