Lately I've asked "What is you favorite HP book?" and many have different reasons why they like the books before the 4th and after the 4th.
Some seemed to like it when Voldemort wasn't around and the world of Harry Potter was still happy and magicul, until after the 4th book were everything became dark and sad... So I'll ask here as well;

What is your favorite HP book, and why? :)

And the poll seems to be merely for decoration since it still doesn't work. :|

For me it's Deathly Hallows. There's a clear level of growth in JK's writing throughout the books and I personally find that her the last of he seven was her greatest. I especially enjoy the versatility and detail of her many wild descriptions, often managing to describe otherworldly magical effects through everyday metaphors.

It is also good to see how she can make even less important characters come to life with only a few lines of text, or small changes to reflect that they, too, have grown throughout the years. Like Krum at Bill & Fleur's wedding, having grown a little beard since last we heard of him in the fourth (and some mentions of him in between because of the pen-pal letters with Her-my-own-nee).

Plus I enjoy the fact that all the gloves are off and we get to see some of the most horrific and terrific magic at work as well as enjoying a darker, threatening world where everyone seems out to get them and nowhere is safe. Amazing book, truly.

Aaaand I rant too much >.>

Book one was great because it was once fresh and new and exciting. And it has small words, large type, and fewer contradictions.

And just for handy reference:

haha JB. :) And I agree with JB that the first book, regardless of everything, is where it all begins... the magic was fresh, brand new, it's like falling in love for the first time. There's something more adorable about it. I still remember how excited I was to read it. :)

I do enjoy book 4 and then book 7 too.

Why was Quidditch Through The Ages not in this poll? I will abstain from voting in protest.

I could if I wanted to. But you won't trick me into wanting to.

I never got why the first book was called 'the Sorceror's Stone' in America. Don't Americans have Philosophers? The first and second books were okay (and I thought the second movie was the best before they stopped trying to stick to the books), but they were a lot more childish than the later books and I prefer something to get my teeth into.

The third book is my favourite. I liked the Marauders and Sirius and Remus are two of my favourite chars. Also I liked that in the third book we finally got some background information on why Voldemort was after the Potters and it wasn't just because he was the big bad guy.

Plus I liked Padfoot and Moony and the whole animagi thing. And it wasn't totally the kids save the day because the adults can't. DX

From the fourth book onwards Harry started to annoy me because he just got so arrogant and 'I am the Chosen One'. Then they killed off Sirius in OOTP and suddenly shoved Remus/Tonks into the picture when she had shown no interest in him in OOTP. Harry got more and more obnoxious and 'I am always right and will be proved thus because I am the hero', and I stopped really caring if he won. I cheered more when Neville got Nagini. Don't get me wrong; the later books were still interesting, I just found chunks of them annoying or silly.

Vote: 4th book. Why: Because I like it.

I refuse to vote because book one is not labeled properly as "The Philosopher's Stone." :P

But I enjoy the first book the most because it's fresh, it's new, no contradictions, and it's the book that's responsible for kick starting my interest in reading, way back in 1997 when it was first released.
