So far, it's Harry Potter reduced to a Pop-up book with some commentary from the Author, and also changed into a Farmville-type "social" game.

We'd have to pay for every new book with the game's galleons, which you can purchase extra of with real money.

We'd have to pay for every new book with the game's galleons, which you can purchase extra of with real money. Not to unlock a new book, nothing that obvious. But I could see the diagon alley shopping going that way. There'd be mandatory shopping for each year just like in book 1, but they don't drop many galleons in-game. In addition, you need to buy potion ingredients. So you'd have to buy your currency. Of course, you could also trade with other players, so you wouldn't -have- to spend the money necessarily...so it's free to play, as long as you have friends who'd be willing to drop RL cash for you... Sorry. I'm not overly fond of this method. I'd rather straight-up pay subscription, but that model's not considered "cool" anymore.

Kristina wrote: Not to mention they can leech more cash out of us this way... Well yes, that's kind of the point. Someone somewhere did the math and realized that people are more willing to pay tiny amounts of cash for small "enhancements" as opposed to being confronted with a point, either at the beginning or at a certain point into the game, where you'll have to drop $10 to keep going. It's a psychology thing, because humans are stupid. I at least appreciate games that are upfront about it. I can't stand the sneaky ones that try to hide how important their store is until you're already wrapped up in the story. So, we'll see if pottermore is on the good or evil side here...I want to believe, I really do, but years of internet have made me a bit cynical.

But that's besides the point. I think your earlier suggestion, about Diagon Alley, is a little too obvious too. It'd have to be possible to scrape by without paying, but the experience would sorta suck. So maybe you can get all the essentials from picking up coins, but extras, like extra books or potion ingridients, you have to pay extra for.
