First off, this is very good RP that is always encouraged, especially while the curriculum is under construction. However, two points! 1. Please tell a DM what you're up to. Most spells won't require any special RP to be transferred from player to player, or else the player who has them would be aware of it, but there's always some tricky ones. There's nothing worse than going through a bunch of RP and then realizing that it's invalid because neither you nor your PC teacher knew about something important. If you absolutely must go through with the RP because the opportunity will never come again, you can gamble with this, provided you keep in mind #2. 2. Log your practice session! This is important. In fact, if #1 doesn't happen, it's pretty much mandatory, even for "simple" spells. Keep in mind, if you skip #1 every time and just rely on this, we'll find out and get all . So don't. If you don't know how to set up logging in nwn, it's not too tricky. Google knows. That's all! Please carry on!

Yendys is right, make sure to log everything! And to inform a DM, personally, I would inform a Dm before trying to ICly go about learning it.

Does this go for all spells, or just wand spells (Accio, Conjur, etc.)?

Everything. Not every spell in Harry Potter Canon is a wand spell (yet?) and some of the other spells would be learned from classes and/or special tutoring. All you gotta do is let the DMs know. If nobodys on (and odds are there are more of us than you think are online), then send a forum PM. (But don't pester us too much when we're on our respective PCs plznthku)

I do not think this includes NWN spells, i think those be be learned freely with RP added to teach them.

Logging is not required for anything, but it may help. NWN spells can usually be crafted if your character knows the spell, so they rarely need DM intervention anyway. Wand Spells may end up craftable in the future if I can get to the scripts ever.

I kinda mean like what Calan said NWN spells are craftable, so just dont hand them out put some RP behind them.
