WoHP is up all the time. You do have more options than just sitting in the EH waiting for something to happen, you know.
In all fairness there isn't really much to do outside of the normal routine for
some people. Players can't spawn creatures, NPCs, random props, etc. to use for their own adventure. Not everyone enjoys purely conversational play. Some people like the idea of doing things they -can't- do IRL, like casting spells, fighting monsters and other things that they'd never be able to do themselves.
Also, even if they could spawn props, it would be hard to control both your character and whatever other facets are required for what's going on. I've heard DMs say how difficult it can be to juggle everything that needs be done. Ultimately that's the point of a having a DM though, whether it's digital or on paper. To have someone provide a setting and situation for characters to react to. Otherwise they wouldn't have created the position and players would just have at it with their dice.
If you extrapolate it out, why do you even need other players or the NWN engine? You could just play out the whole story in you own mind without relying on anyone or anything. Demanding that players understand that there can't be a DM on 24/7 to run things is perfectly reasonable. Demanding that people create an imagined adventure with no props or control over the environment is not.
