Eh I'll agree with that, it isnt the size of the haks anymore its how easy they are to get and install, if its right on the site, with a .exe installer, people will get it, even if its like 8 gigs or whatever.
But again I agree with Calan that CEP should be the first thing sorted, then if its all groovy theres nothing wrong with having a play around and seeing if d20 will roll with it to, cause who doesn't love new pants.

Data caps are a thing though. I know they've been a thing in other countries for a while, as well as anyone on satellite internet, and the big broadband ISPs in the US are starting to push them out in some markets. So filesize is a factor that should be considered, I don't think CEP or D20 are approaching the size that would make them a huge problem though. I agree with Xeph that maybe asking in another discussion area for the community as a whole would probably yield a more accurate response than asking the people who already play.

Nwn community is tiny. Anyone who comes into it that's new is quickly educated where to nab the needed files. Modding has became staple of PC gaming for last half a decade. Additionally if you need one hak... you can get other one too.
And since game now demands you to have a mod to even see serverlist, we will not loose any "possible players" due to required haks. Actually you might loose some that feels the available stuff is not diverse enough since they had to contend with same things for decade and more.
As for mixing up CEP and D20, if you avoid adding D20 relevant scripts (it offers class and skill remix), visuals are in no clash with standard CEP.

Ok, I'm convinced already that it likely won't be a barrier to login enough to skip out on the additional content. And if what Bjorn is saying is true and I can pick just the visuals, and they don't conflict with CEP, then I have little reason to not add the D20 Modern.
I will look it over when I do the CEP 2.61 update, which should be before too long. I need to get a couple other things out of the way first- and then we can get to rebuilding some of the areas.

You need a mod to see the server list? I thought you just had to direct connect.

Nah, using NWNCX (NWN Client Extender) you can see a community supported server list, similar to when GameSpy supported the game but which goes entirely around GameSpy. Direct Connecting and using the server history obviously still works.

Your antivirus program might flag it but I've been using it for years, I promise it's safe. http://www.neverwinternights.info/nwncx.htm

Virus scanner flags it. Written by a guy named Virusman. Hosted in Russia. I swear, it's totally safe.
Actually it is. Virusman is the primary programmer for NWNX, he's cool.

Another thing that D20 modern would add is an actual train to appear at the train station. It wouldn't be red, but it'd be there for the sake of having a train.
A lot of the items that are in the D20 modern were taken from Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines, and KoTOR, so make of that what you will.
